Spring vs. Fall Weddings

Event Planning Pittsburgh

Even though summer is a popular time for weddings, fall and spring also have a lot to offer your special day. With gorgeous weather, seasonal menus, and beautiful spring flowers, the perks of having a fall or spring wedding are endless! Aside from the perks, planning a wedding during these seasons also has its own set of challenges and issues you should keep in mind.

Serving as your premier event planner in Pittsburgh, Encore Event Design has put together a list of things to keep in mind when planning a spring or fall wedding.

Spring Weddings

The weather may not be that warm.

When we think of spring, we think of the warm and sunny weather that comes with it, but in many areas, temperatures don’t usually hit the 70s until late May. If you plan to get married in March or April, be sure to prepare for the colder temperatures with dresses and accessories that look great and keep you and your bridal party warm.

April showers may bring soggy outdoor photos.

Between the melting snow and the frequent rain, the ground and the grass are likely to be soggy and wet. It is essential to be cautious of where you step while you are taking your engagement or wedding photos outdoors.

Keep spring allergies in mind.

If you have family members or members of your bridal party who have pollen allergies or other springtime allergies, search for a venue that meets your needs and vision for your special day, but also won’t make their allergy symptoms worse. If this isn’t an option and the venue has the potential to aggravate their allergies, consider including travel tissues with the wedding favors.

Prepare for bugs.

As the earth thaws from winter and the beautiful spring flowers bloom, insects will begin emerging as well. If you plan to be outdoors for your wedding ceremony or reception, it is essential to take precautions and prepare for bugs that may crash your wedding. Keep bug spray and mosquito nets handy and be sure to avoid flowers that attract bees and keep the use of floral perfume to a minimum.

Create a gorgeous look with fresh flowers.

With a spring wedding, you can take advantage of the blooming season with your pick of fresh floral decorations. There are so many varieties of flowers in bloom during the spring, providing you with endless flower type and color options to choose. Incorporate fresh flowers into your centerpieces and fill your venue with gorgeous spring blooms for a look that is sure to impress.

Fall Weddings

Use the beautiful colors of the fall foliage.

When you book your venue, keep in mind the changing fall colors and choose a venue where you can take advantage of the beautiful fall background of reds, yellows, and oranges. These stunning fall colors can also be incorporated into your balloon decorations, linens, centerpieces and more for a gorgeous fall-inspired look.

Take advantage of off-season deals.

With less competition from the summer rush of other brides, you may be able to get off-season deals and discounts. Be sure to speak with your wedding vendors and see if they are willing to negotiate on price.

Remember that snow is a possibility.

Depending on what part of the country you live in, snow can begin around October 1st. Even if you live in Florida, where snow is not a concern, you still need to keep in mind that temperatures in November can be chilly, especially at night. If you plan to get married near the end of fall, an indoor venue may be best to help you avoid potential issues with inclement weather.

Find a better honeymoon deal.

If you get married in the fall, it is likely you’ll be taking your honeymoon in the offseason. You will have less competition from other couples and tourists during booking, and you may even be able to find better deals on hotels or flights. Be sure to check the weather of your preferred honeymoon destination to avoid having your vacation ruined by bad weather.

Add fall flavors to your reception menu.

If you plan to get married during the harvest season, you can add a variety of fall treats to your menu to create a fun, seasonal taste! From apple cider and pumpkin bread to apple and pumpkin pie, there is a wide range of tasty fall menu options to choose from.
